We Rebuilt Mancala From Scratch — Now With 3 Difficulty Levels

For over a decade, Mancala has been one of the most-played games on Hooda Math. And for over a decade, we have heard the same request over and over: make it easier.

The original Mancala AI was brutal. It played a near-perfect game every time, and for younger students or casual players, that meant losing — a lot. Some teachers told us their students loved the concept but gave up after a few rounds.

So we did something about it.

Introducing Mancala 2026

Mancala 2026 is a completely rebuilt version of the classic game, now featuring three difficulty levels:

  • Easy — Perfect for beginners and younger students. The AI makes mistakes on purpose so you can learn the rules and develop basic strategy without getting crushed.
  • Medium — A fair challenge. The AI plays well but leaves openings. Great for students who know the basics and want to level up.
  • Hard — The original difficulty fans know and love. No mercy. Pure strategy. Think you can beat it?

Why We Rebuilt It

Mancala is one of the oldest board games in human history — over 7,000 years old. It teaches counting, strategic thinking, and planning ahead. That is exactly the kind of game that belongs in a classroom.

But a game that is too hard to win is not fun, and a game that is not fun does not get played. By adding difficulty levels, we kept the educational value while making it accessible to everyone.

The Original Is Still Here

If you are a purist, the original Mancala is still available. Same brutal AI, same classic experience.
